How Do I Get My Facebook Account out of Suspension?
To protect the security of its users, Facebook carefully monitors the site for suspicious and illegal activity. Sometimes this activity involves hackers who try to gain access to a user’s personal Facebook profile, while other times it involves suspicions of harassment. Depending on the reason why an account is suspended, the user may receive notice beforehand. In many cases, however, users aren’t notified until they unsuccessfully try to log in to their accounts.
How to Restore/Recover Your Suspended Facebook Account
One day you have a thousand friends, the next your Facebook account has been suspended without prior notification and for security reasons your account is locked. Below are steps to try and restore your FB account and how to contact Facebook directly if necessary. As of today being personally being off Facebook, I can’t shout my happy anniversary love for my girlfriend or RSVP for industry conference parties happening later in the week.
If you login and see, “For security reasons your account is temporarily locked”, then foremost follow on the onsite guide which asks for you to have a copy of your Government ID readily available.
“To make sure this your account, we need you to upload a color photo of your government-issued ID. Your ID should include your name, birthday, and a photo.”
Acceptable forms of ID to Facebook are a Passport, Driver’s license, State-issued ID Card, Military ID Card, or Immigration ID card.
If you don’t have a government-issued ID, the alternative is to submit two other identifying pieces of paper that include your name, one of which requires showing your birthday.
Confirm by checking “This is my government issued ID. I understand I won’t get help with my account if I haven’t uploaded a valid ID.”
Facebook states that it “won’t be able to unlock your account unless you provide an acceptable form of ID.” I’m sure facebook has experienced its share of Mickey Mouse clip art and middlefinger.jpg submissions. Even if you’re a marketing manager of a 20,000,000 fan Facebook page, you’ll see this error message if you try to login to facebook’s page manager.
Once submitted, it’s a gamble on how long before your account is restored. Individuals have experience delays of up to two weeks to next day corrections. Following most of facebook’s policies, it’s a black box to how and why your account was suspended in the first place.
As developer offering Facebook as on the only single sign-on option, you’re putting your customers at major risk. Your customer won’t be able to login, change their settings, or even continuing using your service. In prior user growth measure tests, mobile applications offering only Facebook logins see on average of a 40% dropoff in conversions during sign up. Also as a developer, if your customer Facebook ID list or API keys are hacked, you’re putting your users at risk in having their personally connected Facebook accounts disabled.
Here are some other ways to contact Facebook to try and restore your account:
- Try this Facebook contact form to reopen your case. When looking at my account status, the case was marked as close. I set the case to reopen by submitting a follow-up comment.
- Contact a Facebook developer evangelist. If your developer, technology companies will usually cut the red tape to help you versus risk turning away a valuable channel for user engagement
- Check Facebook’s own help guide for more details.
If your account has been suspended because of unauthorized attempts to access your account, you may want to increase security by enabling login notifications and login approvals in the Privacy section of your Facebook Settings menu. With login notifications, you’ll instantly receive a text message or email when someone logs in to your account from an unrecognized device. With login approvals, anyone attempting to log in to your account from an unrecognized device will need to enter a unique four-digit code. This code is immediately sent as a text message to the cell phone number associated with your account.
